Dining Near Campus

  • Veggie Planet (map) is an all-vegetarian place, though a bit dive-y. It doubles as a music club, so if you come during a performance you're relegated to a small area of benches near the kitchen. However, the brunch is pretty good and has self-serve coffee with soy milk. (Read the HL Record review.)
  • Border Cafe (map) has a vegetarian menu. The vegetarian jumbalaya is vegan, and it has corn and black bean empinadas, eggplant St. Charles, and other veg. entrees.
  • There are a number of good Indian restaurants in Harvard Square that have vegetarian options, including Bombay Club (map) (great views!), Cafe of India (map), and Tanjore (map). Passage to India, in Porter Square, delivers to campus.
  • b.good (map) serves veggie burgers.
  • The Greater Boston Buddhist Cultural Center of Cambridge (map) has a vegetarian restaurant on Mass Ave.
  • Grendel's Den (map) has some good vegetarian options, including falafel, pasta, a veggie burger, etc.
  • Christopher's (map) near Porter Square has tofu buffalo wings, tofu tacos, and an award-winning veggie burger.
  • Although Sound Bites' (map) breakfast isn't especially vegan-friendly, they do have soy milk out with their very good self-serve coffee.
  • Cambridge Commons, just north of the law school, has a veggie burger, portabello sandwich, a middle eastern platter and a few other vegetarian items (e.g., tater tots, fried pickles).

Vegan pizza

  • TJ Scallywaggles Vegan House of Pizza (map) is an all vegan pizza house and sandwich shop that delivers to all areas of Cambridge, including the entirety of the Harvard campus. It is the only all-vegan pizza shop in the entire US that delivers! Owned by Steve Karian, frustrated academic who has written a history textbook and been in 3 doctoral programs.
  • Dial-A-Pizza, available through Campus Food has a soy cheese option for pizza and calzones.
Dessert
Lizzy's and Herrell's in Harvard Square both serve soy ice cream.
  • Herrell's (map) serves peanut butter and chocolate.
  • Lizzy's (map) (across from Border Cafe) serves dark chocolate and coffee. Lizzy's also has coffee Tofutti in large to-go containers in the fridge. Lizzy's chocolate tofutti soy cream with their peanut butter sauce (also vegan) is truly drool worthy.
  • Whole Foods in Central Square carries Purely Decadent soy ice cream. (The peanut butter zig zag is divine!)

Anonymous:I'd like to add an "Interview Essentials" subsection (under Cruelty-free products), noting where to buy nonleather, high-quality briefcases and portfolios for HLS students interviewing with firms -- but I don't know of any local places... Anyone?
